Biography

Alexander White

Founded in 2014, luxury shoe brand Alexander White offers chic and elegant shoes with a playful, youthful twist. Each shoe is designed in London and passionately handmade by skilled artisans on the outskirts of Florence, Italy. As a designer, Alexander is influenced by his surroundings, from architecture to antique jewellery, these influences are then interpreted in a modern and energetic way. The belief that a beautiful pair of shoes changes the way a woman presents herself to the world is what drives the design process and commitment to make women feel special.

Alexander White graduated from Edinburgh University with a degree in Design and Applied Arts. He went on to work at Erdem and Giles, before enrolling at Cordwainer’s College to study footwear design. Following his studies, he worked at Kurt Geiger. A chance meeting with Sandra Choi, who reviewed Alexander’s portfolio, is what prompted the designer to start his eponymous label. Since starting the label, Alexander has been nominated as one of the four footwear finalists at Altaroma & Vogue Italia’s WHO IS ON NEXT 2015.

Signature elements throughout his collections include embroidery and metallic materials, contrasting traditional design techniques with modern aesthetics to create truly unique shoes. This unique brand boasts an impressive celebrity fan base including Emma Watson, Carey Mulligan, Alicia Vikander, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, Anna Kendrick, Nicole Scherzinger, Chanel Iman and Gemma Ward.

The brand is stocked internationally at some of the most exclusive retailers, including Barneys New York, Lane Crawford and Level Shoe District.

My Thoughts on Alexander White

I had the pleasure to meet Alexander White in person at the London Fashion Week Festival on Thursday 23rd of February in The Store Studios, 180 Strand, London, England. His stall was very popular, customers regularly looking and buying his beautiful shoes which were on display.

I love the classic designs which look fantastic on women due to the feminine and classic styles which I love. During our conversation, it became very clear to me the passion Alexander has for his work, and expressed what luxury shoes mean to him. He stated 'luxury should be of the highest quality, made with the best possible materials available, whilst being stylish and comfortable'. This is evident due to his shoes being made in the same factory as Jimmy Choo and Chanel in Italy.

What I noticed about Alexander is that he has those fundamental qualities in fashion which date back more than 25 years ago. At the same event I attended a talk with British accessories designer Anya Hindmarch, which had the same qualities and vision 25 years ago when she first started her path in fashion. Craftsmanship and working directly with the craftsmen in Italy to produce the finest, well made items possible, along with a strong relationship between the factory and designer is of grave importance, thus providing shoes the customer can cherish and be proud of owning.

I asked Alexander to give me an insight into how he started his brand. After working with Kurt Geiger, he bumped into creative director of Jimmy Choo Sandra Choi on a flight to Hong Kong. As a true fan of Jimmy Choo, Alexander ran up to her and confessed his love for Sandra's designs. Sandra viewed some examples of Alexander's drawings, and gave him advice on his next career path, to either move and live in Asia and work for some of the biggest brands in across the continent or to start his own label. I am thankful he chose the later.

We also talked about his future plans for the brand, and how he intends to grow in the UK and abroad to go along with his strong following in Asia. Alexander's desires are to grow his social media platforms, producing more visible and regular content for his current fans, along with gaining interest from new ones. He hopes to have his shoes stocked with the UK online giants like Net-A-Porter, and departments stores, Harrods, Selfridges and Harvey Nichols. I believe he can achieve this, due to the great notable successes early in the brands existence.

Alexander's designs have found their way onto some of the most beautiful woman on the planet. These include American Victoria's Secret Angel Chanel Iman, and American singer, actress and television personality Nicole Scherzinger. With every season, the celebrity interest grows in Alexander's designs, and hopefully soon will be mentioned alongside household designer names such as Jimmy Choo and Christian Louboutin.

If you love classic, feminine, and amazing quality shoes, Alexander White is a designer you should have in mind. I love his 'Anna' and Brianna' styles, which can be worn all year round. I would highly recommend Alexander White, to all my readers, a designer passionate about shoes and engaging with his customers.

London Fashion Week A/W 2017
February 16th-21st

The London Fashion Week's 5 day event was held at 5 different venues throughout the WC2 and SE1 postcodes. The event showcases the A/W 2017 collections from numerous established and up and coming designers. There is certainly some colourful, artsy and extravagant fashion items on show, but I am a fan of more classic, chic items, and below are some of my favourite collections and items from this event.

Teatum Jones

The catwalk shows got underway on Thursday 16th and Teatum Jones certainly impressed. Teatum Jones is named after designers Catherine Teatum and Rob Jones, and the designers were awarded the 2016 International Woolmark Prize for womenswear, as well as winning the UKFT Best Womenswear Designers of 2015.

What I like about these outfits from Teatum Jones, is how fantastic the fabrics are, and how well they transition from the catwalk to everyday looks. I love the skirt with large metal eyelets, tied together with a strip of black fabric. The off the shoulder top looks fantastic with the skirt, and I love how every look is teamed up with sexy christian louboutin high heels.

I really enjoyed the catwalk, the models looked fantastic in the clothes, everything was well presented. I also enjoyed the fact Teatum Jones hired models with disabilities showing the diversity, that lacks in the fashion world. Overall a very pleasing collection, to which I hope to see on net-a-porter and Harvey Nichols.

David Koma

David Koma's collection hit the catwalk on Sunday 19th around 5pm. Born in Tbilisi, Georgia, and now based in London, David has already received recognition for his collections and was awarded a BFC Newgen Catwalk sponsorship for his Spring/Summer 2011 collection at London Fashion Week as well as being the Vauxhall Fashion Scout’s Merit Award winner in 2009.

When the first outfit hit the runway, I instantly knew I was going to love this collection. David is known for his sculpted dresses, and they all looked fantastic. I particularly like the paneled blue mosaic dress, with black tights, and custom Christian Louboutin ankle boots.

There is a different style of dress for everyone in this collection, from the more edgy leather and fur style, perfect for up-market bars and clubs, to the elegant long, silver and black mesh dress, which you could imagine being worn on the red carpet at film premiers by leading actresses. A fantastic collection I can't wait to see on celebrities in the upcoming months.

Christian Louboutin

When it comes to designer footwear, the first name on most lips is Christian Louboutin, and the famed french shoe designers stunning red soled shoes were on the catwalk as expected.
My favourites pieces were seen during Teatum Jones and David Koma's catwalk shows.

Teatum Jones collection was fantastic, which featured Mr.Louboutin's spring/summer 2017 styles the 'Kadreyana' caged black kid leather and the 'Andaloulou' in black woven leather. My favourites are the 'Kadreyana', I think they look amazing and I can see them being worn with so many different dress, both formal and street style.

The ankle and knee military style high heel boots for the David Koma catwalk show are my clear favourites. Christian Louboutin added custom additions to his 'Madobooty' style boots, by adding a silver-toned metal toe cap (as seen on his 'Djalouzi' court shoes) along with silver toned metal eyelets for the laces. The original 'Mado' ankle boots are amazing in all black leather, but I like this custom style even more, and I hope he releases them in one of his future collections.

Mr.Louboutin also created a custom 'Mado 120' knee high boot in black as well as a military inspired green. I really like these boots as they looked great with the black tights and added to David Koma's amazing collection. He also created a custom version of his 'Vera Fusa Chelsea boots' for the catwalk.

Sophia Webster

British footwear and accessories designer Sophia Webster put on a winter wonderland theme for her latest collection, turning the basement of Phonica Records shop an independent specialist in vinyl records, in Soho, into every young girl's dreams. Sophia, the winner of the FC Vogue Fashion Fund in 2016, stated in an interview the collection was inspired by her 2 year old daughter, which loves the hit Walt Disney film 'Frozen', and in particular Elsa 'Snow Queen of Arendelle'. The collection is great but one piece in particular stood out from the rest ... The 'Glacier' thigh high boots.

As a fan of classic styles, when it comes to Sophia Webster, I love her 'Coco Flamingo' and the 'Coco Crystal' classic pointed toe pumps but i tend to find her other styles a little to artsy for my taste. Even with my love for classic styles, the 'Glacier' thigh high boot is just a masterpiece, and you just can't keep your eyes of them.

These boots are stunning, featuring a metallic pointed toe and a clear block heel, the spectacular detailing in the chains and colourful ice crystal structures. During the facebook live stream, Sophia explained that each panel on the boots took 7 days to make, and she has still yet to determine a price for them, but with a smile on her face said 'expensive'. These boots truly are phenomenal.
