London Fashion Weekend February 2016

Following on from the London Fashion Week in February, the british fashion council provides a public event which gives fashionistas a taste of the lucrative catwalks and designer shopping. The London fashion Weekend is held at the Saatchi Gallery in Chelsea, London. The event runs from Thursday 24th - Sunday 28th and features designer catwalks, upcoming trends for S/S 2016, interactive fashion talks from leading designers, pop up stalls to shop from over 150 designers, and much more. This preview gives information about the event including prices, catwalk and talk timetables, designers information and more. I have sourced information from the London Fashion Weekend website and The British Fashion Council's press release, as both have provided a great detail of information regarding the designers and catwalks, whilst I shall add my own comments, and recomendations.

What to expect at this London Fashion Weekend event?

My experiences from past events

This event will be the 6th time I have attended the London Fashion Weekend, and each of the previous 5 have been different from one another. This will be the 2nd time the event will be held at the Saatchi Gallery, as all the previous events were held at the Somerset House, across from waterloo bridge. The event is great for people interested in fashion, and the event draws many people from around the world. On my last visit I spoke with a german woman prior to the start of a trend catwalk show as she had flown in from Cologne just to visit the London Fashion Weekend event. If you are interested in certain aspects of fashion the event has interactive talks from designers and influential people in the respective industry. In previous years the event has featured talks from influential people such as founder of online fashion store Net-A-Porter, Natalie Massenet, which provided the audience with business advice relevant to the fashion industry, and designers such as Anya Hindmarch (accessories) and Bella Freud (knitwear) which provided information and answered questions relevant to their areas of design. The event caters to a range of fashion enthusiasts, from the casual shoppers, to the die-hard fashionistas.

If you would like to read my review from the last event (September 2015) which features photos from the event itself, you can read it here

Tote Bag

"Preen by Thornton Bregazzi - a firm favourite on the London Fashion Week calendar - has designed the exclusive SS16 tote bag for London Fashion Weekend featuring one of their signature floral prints. What’s more, the tote is included with ticket purchases (limited stock available) for Silver, Gold, LUXE and LUXE Premium ticket holders. You can simply pick one up on arrival – and LUXE ticket holders will receive theirs filled with LUXE goodies." LondonFashionWeekend

"The British Fashion Council (BFC) is delighted to announce that Preen By Thornton Bregazzi
has been commissioned to design this season’s London Fashion Weekend limited edition
tote bag. Inspiration for the tote’s design has been taken from Preen by Thornton Bregazzi’s SS16
collection and its Black Flower Grid pattern to produce a new print that incorporates the
colorful florals of an English country garden within a graphic white framework. The bag is
inspired by visions of graphic romance and with both of them appreciating the benefits of a
spacious handbag, the pair took up the task of designing this season’s exclusive tote bag
with relish. This year marks 20 years in the business for Preen’s London based design duo Justin
Thornton and Thea Bregazzi and designing the London Fashion Weekend tote bag is a
seemingly perfect way to mark the occasion while kicking off the celebrations.
Thornton said; “We love London, it’s our home and it’s our inspiration; we love the art, the
music, the people. It is the most creative city in the world so designing the tote bag for
London Fashion Weekend and the British Fashion Council has been a pleasure.”
The tote is included in the Silver, Gold and LUXE ticket packages, and a limited number will
be available to buy at the event." The British Fashion Council

Róisín Murphy is an odd one, never predictable, her twenty year career from the outside could seem a little unfocused. "I happened upon this “job” quite by chance and I have always thought it was because of my wayward creativity it happened at all, so I'll always put the madness first, the open-ness, because that's how it all started."

When she walked up to Mark Brydon and uttered the line "Do you like my tight sweater? See how it fits my body," a band was born. "I met Mark at a dirty basement party in Sheffield and I freaked him out a bit and turned him on a bit, and I guess that`s the effect I’ve tried to have on people throughout the rest of my career.”"  - LondonFashionWeekend

Rich multilayered surfaces reflect a genuine love of both art history and popular culture. Americana

"Bold stars and stripes motifs were a dominant feature on many of the spring catwalks. Collegiate jackets, tailored blouses and beach-friendly sandals - all in a very U.S- OF-A-friendly red, white and blue - ring in an optimistic summer." - LondonFashionWeekend

Beautiful Bontaicals

"The ever-lovely floral motif is back in a big way for spring, with many designers featuring prints that wouldn’t look out of place in an English country garden. Elsewhere, florals came graphic and oversized on outerwear. It’s the answer to all spring party dressing dilemmas: a mini or maxi dress will be the star of this trend." - LondonFashionWeekend

Pop Art Brights

"This painterly trend will make the season fizz with colour. Bold head-to-toe colour will make an entrance while clashing pantones such as a colour-block shift dress with a clashing spike heel and boxy cross-body bag will work day and night." - LondonFashionWeekend

New Romance

"Embrace your inner romantic with spring’s most refined trend. Runways were awash with delicate, feminine looks: think ruffles, lace, tulle and silk in the palest of pastel shades. It’s the perfect trend to trial this upcoming wedding season." - LondonFashionWeekend
