My experiences from past events

This event will be the 7th time I have attended the London Fashion Weekend, and each of the previous 6 have been different from one another. This will be the 3rd time the event will be held at the Saatchi Gallery, as all the previous events were held at the Somerset House, across from waterloo bridge. On my last visit I sat on the front row of the trend catwalk for the first time and had a great experience. Fashion talks have been very popular in previous years and shall continue for this event too. The event caters to a range of fashion enthusiasts, from the casual shoppers, to the die-hard fashionistas.

If you would like to read my review from the last event (February 2016) which features photos from the event itself, you can read it here

Tote Bag

"Accessories designer Sophia Webster has designed the exclusive London Fashion Weekend Limited Edition tote bag for September 2016.

Luxury footwear and accessories designer, and the 2016 winner of the BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund, Sophia Webster has designed this season’s London Fashion Weekend limited edition tote bag.

Drawing inspiration from beautiful tropical bird feathers, the delicate artwork used on the limited edition tote bag is based on one of Sophia’s signature prints from her SS17 collection; which will be shown at London Fashion Week this September. The print created from the SS17 collection incorporates the peacock motif which translates perfectly to the canvas tote bag. Sophia will also take part in the first industry talk of London Fashion Weekend, taking place on Thursday 22nd September at 16.30pm.

Sophia recently launched her flagship store on Mount Street in the heart of Mayfair, whilst her collections are also available on her own e-commerce site and other prestigious e-commerce sites such as Net-A-Porter and Matches. Sarah Shotton, Agent Provocateur
Talk: Thursday 22th September 15:00

"In March 2010, Sarah Shotton was appointed Creative Director of Agent Provocateur. Sarah grew up in County Durham, in the North East of England and then studied fashion at Central Saint Martins College, London.

Sarah began work as an apprentice at Agent Provocateur in 1999, under the founders Joe Corre and Serena Rees. With over a decade of experience within the company, she has been involved in many aspects of the business and been integral in maintaining and evolving the brand image and philosophy. Whilst working on the shop floor in the Soho boutique, she gained a great understanding of the AP woman and her needs She has also created many iconic, ingenious windows and has developed individual store concepts with each store having its own personality.

Sarah likes to technically challenge the boundaries of lingerie by using laces and fabrics in non-traditional ways to create dramatic shapes for maximum impact. She celebrates the female form; every new shape is developed to flatter, entice and empower women. Her belief that bigger girls should be able to wear sexy underwear has seen Agent Provocateur grow their size ranges extensively. The Ohh Err Mr range with its fun postcard print was one of the first cup-sized bikinis and was famously featured on an iconic Jennifer Lopez Esquire cover. Sarah has also worked on projects with Giles, Pringle and John Smedley.

Sarah’s personality shines through her collections, which are seductive and luxurious with a hint of naughtiness." - LondonFashionWeekend

Sophia Webster
Talk: Thursday 22th September 16:30

"British accessories designer Sophia Webster founded her eponymous label in 2012, and has become renowned for combining feminine design with a sophisticated approach.

A graduate from the distinguished Cordwainers College and The Royal College of Art, she debuted her first collection for Spring/Summer 2013. Her products now have an international presence and are distributed in over 200 retailers worldwide.

Sophia was awarded the Conde Nast Footwear Emerging Designer of the Year 2012, British Fashion Award for Emerging Accessories Designer 2013 and the British Fashion Council’s New Gen Award for her first 3 consecutive seasons. She also won the BFC Vogue Fashion Fund in 2016, becoming the second shoe designer in history to receive this prestigious prize. Immediately following her graduation from the Royal College of Art, Sophia was appointed as Assistant Designer to Nicholas Kirkwood.

The Sophia Webster flagship retail store was opened in 2016, on Mayfair’s Mount Street. A unique retail design space that translates her signature brand codes into a brick and mortar reality, the interior boasts bespoke furniture in Sophia’s chosen colour palette and cleverly combines details from her cult footwear collections. The store complements the already established but expanding Ecommerce business, and both work in unison to provide a seamless customer experience.

Patrick Grant
Talk: Friday 23th September 13:00

"In May 2015 Patrick Grant won the BFC/ GQ designer menswear fund sponsored by Vertu, part of a twelve month mentoring programme for his transformation of the RTW line E. Tautz.

In May 2015 Patrick Grant won the BFC/ GQ designer menswear fund sponsored by Vertu, part of a twelve month mentoring programme for his transformation of the RTW line E. Tautz. Patrick has numerous other awards to his name; having won the British Fashion Council’s Menswear Designer of the Year award in December 2010 for his work on E. Tautz. In 2012, he won the BFC’s Fashion Forward award, was shortlisted for Designer of the Year at the Scottish Fashion Awards and International Designer of the Year at the WGSN Global Fashion Awards. He was also named Retailer of the Year at the 2008 Scottish Fashion Awards.

Patrick’s most recent venture has been perhaps his most rewarding to date. In 2015, he purchased the ailing British Cookson & Clegg factory weeks from closure. Following this, in 2016, Patrick Grant launched the not-for-profit clothing line Community Clothing, born from concerns about the structural issues facing many small UK clothing and textile businesses – namely, the seasonality of demand. With this in mind, Patrick created a line available direct to the consumer, eliminating wholesale mark-ups to create quality, affordable British clothing for all. From this, Patrick has been able to save as well as create a huge number of jobs in the Blackburn community and is currently looking for other factories at risk to join his Community Clothing project.

Patrick is a regular in best dressed lists in the UK, appearing for the past five years in GQ’s 50 Best Dressed Men, he was named in Esquire Magazine’s Most Stylish Men in the World and was one of 10 Men You Should Meet in London in 10 Men magazine. He is also a regular on the BBC both on television and radio, including the major documentaries Savile Row, Harris Tweed, and The Perfect Suit, and the on-going BBC2 Series The Great British Sewing Bee.

Patrick has a Bachelors degree in Materials Science & Engineering from Leeds University and Université d’Orléans, a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Oxford and in 2013 was made an Honorary Professor at Glasgow Caledonian University School for Business & Society.  He has worked with many brands and designers including Barbour, Christopher Kane, Kim Jones, House of Holland, John Lobb, Rag & Bone, The Kooples, Jaguar Land Rover, Citroen and Chivas Regal. Patrick lives in London and bicycles to work on Savile Row each day."  - LondonFashionWeekend

"Preen by Thornton Bregazzi was founded in 1996 by Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi, with a joint love of all things Victoriana, a passion for recycling and the juxta positioning of masculine and feminine inspiration, brings together the couples deconstructed chic with a minimal opulence designs to life. 2016 sees Preen by Thornton Bregaazi celebrate it’s 20th Anniversary in the month of September.

Their debut collection at London Fashion Week for Spring/Summer 2001 composed of punkish elements; vintage lace and hand crafted effects, this collection received rave reviews, described as a sartorial traditional clash, with a very British sense of tongue-in-cheek chic. Liberty Ross wore their ‘rosary bead’ blouse to the British fashion awards straight from the runway, putting Preen firmly on the fashion map. Subsequent collections have built on this early success, with increasing sales and extensive press attention.

As a regular must-see show on London Fashion week schedule, Preen made the decision to move their twice yearly runway shows to New York Fashion Week for Spring/Summer 2008, becoming a much anticipated part of New York show calendar, Since showing in New York, the international exposure of Preen has magnified and sales doubled. They came back to London for their Spring Summer 2013 show, receiving rave reviews.

Spring /Summer 2008 saw the launch of ‘Preen Line’, their contemporary line, this gave the designers an avenue for the rock and roll, easy wear elements of their design, with a strong emphasis on effortless everyday cool. With Preen EyeWear now in stores world wide for Spring summer 14 , Mini Preen now in its second season and Preen Shoes launching instore for Fall Winter 14/15, the Brand is constantly evolving and growing.

Now designing six women’s wear collections a year, with a style that is described as deconstructed chic with a minimal opulence, Justin and Thea have grown their label from a tiny shop in London’s Portobello Road, to selling in over 25 countries world wide. Preen designs are worn by high profile women including Diane Kruger, Scarlett Johansson, Cate Blanchett, Carey Mulligan, Kate Bosworth, Gwyneth Paltrow, Beyonce, Rihanna and Michelle Obama." - LondonFashionWeekend
