London Fashion Weekend Thursday 22nd September 2016

www.londonfashionweekend.co.uk

On thursday 22nd of september I visited the 32nd edition of the London Fashion Weekend event. The event was hosted by The British Fashion Council (BFC) at The Saatchi Gallery in Chelsea for the 3rd time. The London Fashion Weekend gives the general public the London Fashion Week experience with catwalk shows, talks, pop-up events and designer shopping.

    My tickets

    The tickets I purchased for the event included;
1x Silver entry ticket for entry between 3:30pm - 9pm
1x Silver catwalk (Trend) at 7pm
1x Sophia Webster Industry Talk at 4:30pm
    1x Designer Tote bag

    The Venue/Outside

The Saatchi Gallery is approximately a 5 minute walk from Sloane Square underground train station. Outside the entrance to the venue, there was a ticket sales stand and a tote bag collection point. Customers which had not purchased tickets in advance, and wish to visit the event to shop could buy day tickets at the ticket stand. Leading up to the main entrance of the Saatchi Gallery, on the right were seating areas for ticket owners to sit outdoors overlooking the grounds, enjoy a smoking break or to grab some fresh area. As you go up the steps to the main entrance doors, there was a large promotional board for the event which ticket members could take photos next to.

    Entrance and First Impressions

Through the main doors, are the information desks with two large promotional boards, which features the map for the gallery. You can also pick up the events magazine called "The Weekender" which had information on the event, such as; catwalk and talk schedules, a directory for each designers concessions on each floor, and interviews with top fashion magazine editors and designers. To the right of the entrance was the ELLE magazine collection point which provided a free copy of their October issue. This is the same setup as the previous event held in February 2016 except for the ELLE collection point which previously was located on the lower/basement floor.

    Weekender Magazine

This is the 3nd issue of the London Fashion Weekends magazine "The Weekender". This magazine is for the Autumn/Winter 2016 season and features a beautiful dress by London-based Canadian womenswear fashion designer Edeline Lee on the front cover. The 54 page magazine provides information on this seasons event and features several fashion editors picks of this seasons trends and styles, a show guide including essentials such as the schedule, map, and shopping directory, and finally behind the scenes interviews with catwalk designers such as SIBLING and J.JS LEE.

    Sophia Webster Industry Talk (4:30pm)

I had paid to attend a short 20-25 minute talk focusing on Sophia Websters influences, future plans along with a questions and answers session from the audience in attendance. The talk was held on the 2nd floor of the Saatchi Gallery, hosted by fashion stylist Martha Ward. Unfortunately filming the talk was not permitted, but I did take a lot of notes on my notepad, whilst the talk was underway. Sophia was accompanied by her husband Bobby Stockley, which is also the managing director of the company.

This room is extremely hot, with very little airflow. I managed to go through a whole bottle of water within 20 minutes. The talk started around 15 minutes late, due to allocation of the seats.

    Trend Catwalk Show (7pm)

The catwalk area was located on the 1st floor with the same setup as the previous events held at the Saatchi Gallery. Around 350 people attended this trend show, which had seating on either side of the room, with photographers at the end of the catwalk. Approximately 4 large flat screen tv's were attached to one side of the wall in the room. I was seated on the second row with a very good view of the models. The front row was available to people which purchase the LUXE tickets or as a paid add-on to their lower level tickets.

The catwalk show was presented by Avenue32 and focused of 3 trends for the AW16 season. At the end of each individual trend, the last 3-4 models would pose, whilst the catwalk presenter would give a brief summary along with her own thoughts. This catwalk show lasted around 30 minutes. It may be a good idea to view the trend catwalk show first before shopping around the concessions if you are looking to buy the featured items/looks.

    Catwalk Presenter - Laura Jackson

"Laura Jackson manages to pull of the impossible: having a wardrobe to envy even though she's as likeable as your best friend. Shoe's photographed for her natural style - prim lace tea dresses and pageboy blouses - as often as she's called on for her easy-going attitude to present from the red carpet or on screen. Her roaming presenting career has included stints as a backstage reporter at London Fashion Week, and she's fronted Channel 4's hit music show Freshly Squeezed with Rick Edwards and Nick Grimshaw. She will be on hand to present the Avenue32 Catwalk Trend presentations which reveal the key AW16 trends to know." - The Weekender

    Trend 01: A Velvet Affair

"If there's one piece to invest in now, it's velvet. The sumptuous fabric ruled the winter runaways, found on everything from languid dresses to skinny suiting with a rock 'n' Roll edge. In jewel or electric tones, don't just save these pieces for after dark - they also add a luxe touch to day wear."
    - LondonFashionWeekend

    Trend 02: New Look Lace

"At once sweet, sexy and sultry, this season pretty lace unveils a punchier attitude courtesy of graphic patterns and unexpected shades. Opt for high necklines and modest silhouettes with a hint of Victoriana for a demure spin, while off the shoulder styles and cut outs offer a more daring way to wear." - LondonFashionWeekend

    Trend 03: Winter Florals
"Consider this trend proof that summer's romantic mood also has gravitas for winter, as florals are reimagined with a darker, more dramatic demeanour. The piece to invest in now? A printed midi dress has day-to-night covered. Strewn with wild blooms, capes and floor-sweeping gowns steal the spotlight" - LondonFashionWeekend
